In his first solo exhibition in Canada, Kerry James Marshall tells visible and invisible stories of Black America. This exhibition features three diverse and significant series, each of which present a historically-informed exploration of Black life: "Garden Projects," a series of vibrant urban scenes based on public housing projects on the South Side of Chicago and Watts; "Souvenirs," late-1990s paintings of middle-class living rooms; and "Vignettes," idyllic images of Black couples in sumptuous romantic landscapes reminiscent of eighteenth-century Rococo paintings.
